SERVICE OVERVIEW

Description of Lube, Oil & Filter Change

An oil change and filter replacement is one of many preventative maintenance services that help promote maximum vehicle performance while extending the life of your vehicle. Oil is responsible for lubricating the working components inside your vehicle’s engine while reducing the amount of friction between them. Because the engine generates a substantial amount of heat, oil acts as a cooling agent as it circulates through the engine. Oil also absorbs other harmful particles created during the combustion process and directs them to the oil filter, which filters out the debris and contaminants for clean, free-flowing oil. Together, the oil and oil filter keep your vehicle’s engine operating at optimal levels of performance. During an oil change, we will replace your engine’s old oil with new oil and replace the oil filter. We will also lubricate the chassis components of the vehicle according to the standards of the manufacturer. At the end of every lube, oil and filter change, our staff will have ensured that your engine oil is clean and the working parts of your engine are properly lubricated.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • Should I consider using synthetic oil?

Synthetic oil has some advantages over conventional motor oil. It’s designed to be more effective at:
    • Resisting break-down, and thus lasts longer than mineral oil
    • Withstanding high temperatures
    • Flowing in cold temperatures, thus reducing engine wear during frigid startups.
However, synthetic motor oil can cost two to four times as much as regular oil. So unless your owner’s manual specifies synthetic, you don’t need it.

  • What parts should be replaced?

    Cambelt
These intervals range from every 90,000 km to every 165,000 km , and from four years up to six years. The vehicle handbook will specify the change frequency, and a decent garage should let you know if a cambelt change is due when your car’s serviced.
    Brake Pads
Generally, brake pads need to be replaced after about 80,000 km. Some need to be replaced after 45,000km, while others can last for 110,000 km – it all depends on the factors. To get a more accurate number for your car’s specific needs, consult the owner’s manual

    Brake Fluid
Some manufacturers include it in their maintenance schedules and others don’t. Mercedes-Benz, for example, says brake fluid should be flushed and replaced with new fluid every two years or 30,000km . Volkswagen says that a brake fluid flush should be done on most of its models every two years regardless of mileage.

    Coolant
Engine coolant does deteriorate over time. But unless something unusual occurs, you probably won’t need to change the coolant in most late-model vehicles until 160,000km.

    Oil Filter
Filter change intervals have been increasing. Most oil filters are changed at an interval of 10,000km to 30,000km. With such long intervals between changes, it’s important to make sure a quality oil filter is fitted that will go the distance.

  • How do I keep track of routine?

A vehicle service is a series of maintenance procedures carried out at a set time interval or after the vehicle has travelled a certain distance. The service intervals are specified by the vehicle manufacturer in a service schedule and some modern cars display the due date for the next service electronically on the instrument panel.
The completed services are usually recorded in a service book which is rubber stamped by the wo0rkshop upon completion of each service. A complete service history usually adds to the resale value of a vehicle.
